Matthias Simon is a physicist by training and holds a PhD in experimental physics. He joined Philips in 1998 as a Research Scientist in Aachen, Germany, where he worked on several projects focusing on X-ray conversion materials, X-ray detectors, and imaging physics.

In 2011, he transferred to Philips Research in Eindhoven as a Senior Scientist, where he investigated, in collaboration with several external research institutes, the use of thin-film organic electronics for X-ray detection. While further expanding his expertise in diagnostic and interventional X-ray and CT systems and applications, Matthias also led projects on dual-energy and spectral X-ray concepts.

From 2018 to 2021, he worked on a European public–private partnership project focused on stroke imaging using dual-energy cone-beam CT.

In 2024, he joined the Philips IGT Systems Front-End Innovation department in Best, where he is currently involved in advanced development projects aimed at improving CBCT imaging in the neuro and oncology domains.

NISHANT SINGH

Nishant Singh is an R&D Engineer in the X-ray Components department within the Image Chain cluster of the Image Guided Therapy (IGT) Systems group at Philips Medical Systems in Best, the Netherlands. He holds a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in signal processing and communication systems, and has spent the past eleven years contributing to the development of advanced medical imaging technologies at Philips, spanning diagnostic X-ray to image-guided therapy systems.

His work and interests focus on algorithm development for X-ray cone-beam imaging, particularly in the areas of scatter mitigation and reconstruction quality improvement. He has extensive experience with anti-scatter grids, software-based scatter correction methods, and mathematical modeling for image quality enhancement. His approach combines strong theoretical foundations with hands-on validation, frequently testing and refining concepts in the laboratory to ensure robust and clinically relevant performance.

As part of the PreciseOnco IHI project, he contributes to Work Package 2, which focuses on the evaluation and optimization of dual-layer X-ray detectors and next-generation anti-scatter grid technologies. The goal of his work is to advance dual-layer detector-based spectral cone-beam imaging performance for abdominal applications through improved hardware–software integration and physics-driven algorithmic innovation.

Julisca Cesar is a Senior Clinical Scientist specializing in Interventional Oncology within the Image Guided Therapy Systems division at Philips. In this role, she bridges scientific theory and clinical practice to support the development of innovative, minimally invasive cancer treatments.

Her work involves close collaboration with medical professionals and engineers to enhance imaging technologies as well as planning and navigation software solutions, with the goal of improving patient outcomes. Julisca holds a Research Master’s degree in Epidemiology from Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, where she developed a strong foundation in medical research and healthcare innovation.

PEDRO RODRIGUES

Pedro Rodrigues is a Clinical Scientist in Oncology at Philips, where he owns the clinical roadmap for IntelliSpace Portal (AVW) Advanced Visualization Solutions in Oncology and General Radiology. With more than 15 years of experience in diagnostic imaging and image-guided therapies, he works at the intersection of clinical needs, artificial intelligence, and product strategy.

Philips France will support the French clinical partners, HCL and APHP, in running the clinical studies, bringing technical knowledge on the imaging systems, providing advanced training for the clinical staff, contributing to protocol optimization, data collection and analysis, and publications.
